Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM)

One of the six criteria used for best-practice management is Integrated Water Cycle Management (IWCM).

IWCM is the integrated management of the water supply, sewerage and stormwater services within a whole catchment strategic framework.  IWCM is a framework to help identify water management problems, to address these problems, to determine the appropriate management responses, and manage the impacts of the problems so that social, environmental, and economic objectives are met.

Walcha Council has embarked on the IWCM planning process by adopting, at its Meeting held on 28 March 2012, two reports relating to IWCM as follows:

  • The Evaluation Study (PDF – 1347.53KB) forms the first part of an IWCM strategy for Walcha’s water utility services.  The IWCM process aims to optimize the urban water cycle involving water supply, sewerage and stormwater by minimising the impacts between the water services and the catchment and by integrating the water services with each other.  The Report identifies the issues which Council, as the local water utility, needs to address over the next 30 years.
  • The Simplified Strategy (PDF – 117.3KB) assigns actions, timing, and costs of actions to address the issues identified in the Evaluation Report.
